I remember this story from my childhood. It’s also one of my mummy’s favourite. She loves to retell it, mostly as an encouragement.
I hunted the original version down on amazon and received it recently.

Was pleasantly surprised that K absolutely LOVED it. After the first reading, she asked if we could read it Every Night.
Of course.
At one of those sessions, even B chirps merrily ‘I think I can, I think I can.’ How cute is that?!

I love the retro illustrations, and whilst the style of writing might not be the most succinct, the charm of the simple phrases from a simpler time does come through.
And which parent could resist such a wonderful way of imparting such an important character attribute as optimistic confidence with cheerful perseverance?
