I have been a supporter of the 20schemes ministry in Scotland for many years, and recently chanced upon this very inspiring and heartfelt article, written by a pastor’s wife. Amazingly, this Aussie journalist who worked in London, fell in love with a Scottish man, and decided to make their first marital home in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Scotland. Here’s her story.
She then lists out three points that are really good reminders and really resonated with me.
In a property-mad country like Singapore, it is all too often to have our conversations centre around such exorbitant and yet such temporal things. Whilst I would still find it personally extremely challenging to deliberately live in a neighbourhood of 1-to-2 room rental housing so as to minister to them, it is certainly worth intentionally calibrating our hearts and minds away from being obsessed with earthly bricks and mortar and the trappings of moth-prone wealth.
Miriam reminds us importantly, that we should look to our church family to be our real homes, not some fancy building.
Indeed, do hop over to read her full article, and consider supporting a 20schemes church-planting team. They have so many now, reaching out to the most needy in the most challenging of environments. Yet, God has been working so mightily through these willing hands and feet. They will be truly blessed in eternity, which is the only will count once our tiny blip on earth is past.
