Fruit delivery services are all the rage these days, so was happy to see what Qingo has to offer when they approached us for a review.
This was delivered to our doorstep!
What was interesting was that there were three kinds of fruits sent to us that I had never seen before!
Let’s look into what they were, one by one.
Pepino Fruit
This looked a little like peaches, especially when cut open! The one I tasted had a very light and refreshing taste but was not sweet.
Hawthorn
I was quite fascinated with this, because I have never seen a hawthorn fruit, only the snack version of little red discs.
This was how it looked when sliced open, and tasted rather sour, like a tiny granny smith apple. This is usually strung in a row on a stick and coated with lots of molasses (Bing Hulu) and sold as a popular snack in China, so the intense sugar offsets the tart sourness of the fruit.
Premium Millennial Cherry Tomatoes
These tomatoes lived up to their name!
Really fresh, sweet and juicy as you can tell from the photo below.
Milk Green Jujube
Yet another fruit I hadn’t seen in my life.
Initially I thought they were small green apples, but upon slicing them open, I realised that the seed meant that it was certainly not from the apple family. These were tart and not sweet, but did taste rather healthy.
China Fuji Apples
These are a familiar sight in supermarkets, but our family seldom buys them, preferring the US Envy Apples.
Nonetheless, these were crunchy, sweet and fresh.
Kyoho Grapes
These Kyoho grapes came in a dense long bunch, and the wrapping and moisture meant that it is common to see some fluffy white mould in the inner stems. When I mentioned this to Qingo, they advised plucking out the grapes one by one, washing them and then peeling the skins to enjoy the unsullied soft globules inside.
Which is what I did, and they were a burst of wonderful sweet juice with just the right bounciness of grape flesh texture.
I would have liked to try their very delectable-looking sweet lychees, blueberries, persimmons and cherries, but I guess there’s always a next time!
