Gardens by the Bay’s Orchid Extravaganza this year was Peranakan-themed!
Flower Dome
It was lovely to see that some visitors had even dressed up on special Nonya kebaya outfits for the occasion!
What a wonderful nod to our country’s nonya-baba heritage, and a great way to introduce tourists to local architecture, beyond the glitz of glass-clad skyscrapers.
And giant-sized Peranakan beaded slippers, as well as a gorgeous display of tingkats.
I thought the ‘cloud’ displays were also wonderful, especially since they were a reference to the clouds featured in Bunga Sayang, one of the films in 7 Letters, a Singaporean movie. Couldn’t stop humming the song as I walked through these displays.
As always, the beautiful blooms are the star of the Dome.
It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many varieties of orchids, all so unique yet beautiful in their own way.
I think GBTB has really outdone itself this round on the backdrops and displays!
The final photo-taking display area at the end of the Flower Dome always makes for a fitting wrap to the experience – this was particularly sweet.
Cloud Forest
We strolled through the cloud forest and enjoyed the misty experience.
The surrounds
It was a cloudy day, perfect for strolling around the grounds without being scorched.
I loved how the cacti below seem to have decided to grow closer to each other and end up locked in an embrace. The swirls also meld together in a heart-shape, don’t you think?
The girls spotted this little creature too! We were glad to have a bit of a ‘nature walk’ touch to our day.
What I really enjoyed was seeing families out and about, especially fathers having a great time engaging their kids, whether it was guiding babies along at the Water Play area, or just having a good laugh with their kids at the sand area near the Otters Crossing.
Spending time outdoors with one’s family is one of the best things to do, and the Gardens are a fantastic location for such family time!
