We were kindly invited to our favourite resin playground – Resin Play!
They had recently relocated to a great space on the second floor of 37 Beach Road, which is centrally located near the National Library at the end of Purvis Street, and about 5 minutes walk from Bugis MRT.
K & B were signed up for the Christmas Ornaments Casting Workshop, which had many runs in November and December, but are unfortunately all sold out now.
I always enjoy being in Resin Play because there is so much eye candy to look at – a thing of beauty to behold at every turn!
And here are some trimmed with tinsel for the season.
Our Workshop Experience
The girls had a great workshop experience as always. Janice clearly and patiently explained each step, then demonstrated how it should be done.
For a start, you get to choose from these pretty moulds, to make an object that will be suspended in the Christmas ornament.
After you tip some very fine powder into colour the plaster mix, you get to marble the colours and pour them into the moulds.
What I’ve always enjoyed about Resin Play is the fact that the final product is unpredictable and unique, but always beautiful, regardless of your skill level!
Here’s the marbling, and some satay stick action to make sure the plaster flows into every nook and cranny of the mould.
Part Two of the workshop involved preparing the resin to suspend the plaster shape in. Here’s Elaine, founder and owner of Resin Play, showing us how its done. She trained in London’s St Martin’s, so you can be sure she knows what she’s doing, especially when it comes to design!
Here are some close-ups of the girls’ work. It’s always fun to choose your own mix of colours and glitter so no two creations are ever identical.
Here’s a video of a few of the main steps, and below that, are K and B’s final products!
The resin pieces have to cure for a few hours, so we left them overnight and collected them the next day.
And here they are! Aren’t they pretty?
Resin is a very exquisite material that is both extremely lasting and food safe (for decorated cheese boards, chopping boards and the like). Its viscous texture also makes it perfect for glitter to suspend nicely inside, and can be coloured in an amazing variety of powdered pigments.
Workshops at Resin Play
Workshops at Resin Play are always well-organised, with high quality materials provided and attentive instructors that guide students closely.
The girls and I have always enjoyed every session that we attended!
I think these are especially beautiful.
Terrazzo decorative objects are all the rage these days, and here’s a workshop where you can create your very own!
Craft Kits to bring home
Coasters make for great gifts, and these look out of this world! 😉
If you have a weakness for flowers like me, then this trinket tray kit will be your thing!
Here’s the kit ‘in the flesh’.
And here are some samples of finished products!
