Beautiful books – The Story Orchestra by Jessica Courtney-Tickle and What is Hidden in the Woods by Aina Bestard

I chanced upon some beautiful books at the Asian Civilisation Museum whilst we were waiting out a downpour.

Apart from cute series of multi-cultural storybooks, here are two more that my kids were especially taken with.

The Story Orchestra by Jessica Courtney-Tickle

There is so much win in this.

Firstly, the illustrations are gorgeous.

Secondly, the prose is simple but beautiful.

Thirdly, the book describes the passing of the four seasons, which is a wonderful subject for children to learn about, and imagine (if they do not live in temperate countries).

Lastly and most impressively, every page has a “press here” circle, which plays a segment of Vivaldi! The book is cleverly designed such that pressing gently on a specific ‘button’ on each page activates the music within the ‘board’ on the last page.

Isn’t this a charming book? I’m getting one for my nephew!

What is Hidden in the Woods by Aina Bestard

This is a fascinating book because of its clever use of colour filters. Whilst this is not a new concept, I thought it was executed particularly well in this book.

Although my kids are not that young, they were mesmerised by this book, and my littler one requested for this when asked to choose a present.

They have an entire series of this – “What is Hidden in the Sea” and “What is Hidden in the Body” too. We’ve purchased one as well.

Always so pleased to see interesting new books for children out there!
