As I opened the door, I was greeted with the refreshing sight of quaint floor-to-ceiling shophouse windows, letting natural daylight flood into this airy space – perfect for inspiring creativity! Welcome to ArtPlay Haus, centrally located at 37 Beach Road, Singapore, a short stroll from City Hall MRT or Bugis MRT.

I love the colour palette – soothing and delightful. This is a much more spacious venue than Resin Play (which is still on the same floor, for those who are familiar with it), similarly owned and run by Elaine Tan, who fell in love with resin as an art medium when she attended summer school at Central Saint Martins in London, UK. ArtPlay Haus has expanded to offer Art Therapy workshops as well, and Elaine herself is currently pursuing a Master’s in Art Therapy at LASALLE Singapore.

Art Therapy Workshops

Veteran art therapist Christine Tok helms the art therapy workshops at ArtPlay Haus, where participants can pick up tools and tips to support their mental and emotional well-being.

Art is indeed such an effective way of allowing ourselves to express the trials in our lives, give form to our feelings as well as heal through the creative process. Through it, we can learn to come to terms with imperfect realities and hold space in accepting ourselves as we are, and seek to extend grace to ourselves and others.

Beyond being relaxing on one level, art can be restorative and therapeutic in ways we wouldn’t have imagined, especially under the mentorship of an experienced and empathetic therapist, who can ably guide us through this transformative process. Parent-child sessions are also a great way to bond with your child and listen intently to what goes through their hearts and minds.

ArtPlay Jamming

Another new offering – ArtPlay Jamming! These hour-long sessions at just $35 each gets you painting on wooden panels or a set of 4 coasters, or just playing with craft materials such as pomp-pomps and beads.

The best feature of art jamming at ArtPlay Haus is that your art pieces get a complimentary resin glaze, which certainly adds a professional finish to your art piece, not to mention keeps it dust-free, easy to clean, and looking brand new all the time.

ArtPlay Jamming is open to all ages, and kids below age 7 need to be accompanied by a caregiver. It’s perfect for your kids to keep themselves occupied so that you can concentrate on your ArtPlay Workshop, or for you to dabble in some art whilst your kid attends a workshop instead!

Our family had a smashing time art jamming too – we enjoyed the blissful serenity (when we were not bantering over whose art was more aesthetically pleasing).

We really loved the end-products – we all thought of little taglines that could be printed out via the Cricut machine. These vinyl stickers were then produced for us by the very patient and friendly staff on duty that day, and you can consider this too, for an additional fee of $5/coaster (up to 15 characters). Ready-to-use stick on letters are also available on a complimentary basis. ArtHausPlay also offers laser engraving (directly on the wood) for $5/coaster too.

One of the girls made all four coasters as gifts to friends. 🙂

Art Workshops

On the topic of workshops, there are so many interesting ones to choose from here!

Create resin-ensconced flower earrings or coasters, Resin Cheeseboards and coasters, Confetti Celebration Coasters that can be personalised, or Terrazzo trinket trays using high-quality Jesmonite.

I attended a Terrazzo Trinket Tray workshop recently, and look at what I created! No pictures of the pouring process since I was obviously too absorbed stirring, adding pigment, and then pouring the black, white and marbled segments in. I was very pleased with the final outcome! Not perfect, but having attended many craft workshops, I am now very comfortable with embracing imperfections in my creations. 🙂
